Since the beginning of this week our team has been strengthened by Faysal and Jairo. They will do an internship with us.
TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR EDUCATION?
FAYSAL: Hello! I am Faysal, I am 22 years old and I live in The Hague. My hobbies are playing / watching football, watching movies / series and I love technology. I study engineering at the Hogeschool Rotterdam. I am now in 3rd grade and follow the design direction, here I am more concerned with drawing and researching design outputs.
JAIRO: My name is Jairo, I live in Nootdorp and I am 23 years old. I study engineering at the Hogeschool Rotterdam. This internship is the start of the third year. In my spare time I like to exercise.
WHY STUDIO FLEX?
FAYSAL: I am someone who loves construction, from the design phase to completion. But I have a criteria that I find very crucial and that is sustainability. At school I had to work very early on coming up with solutions, but at the same time I had to take the environment and surroundings into account. I found this very interesting and was therefore looking for an internship that also paid attention to this. And so I ended up at Studio Flex, an agency that not only looks at whether a building looks beautiful and stands solid, but also whether it does not have too much impact on the environment. I also looked at all the projects that Studio Flex was working on, and these certainly caught my attention.
JAIRO: I initially saw Studio Flex through social media. I got inspired there. When I later received more information from school regarding internship, I contacted Studio Flex. One thing led to another and I can now start my internship.
WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS?
FAYSAL: I expect to be able to learn a lot in my time here. I would love to learn something about sustainability, this is something new to me, but something that I am very interested in. I want to know what my colleagues think about this and how they go about it. I also want to improve myself in drawing building parts, concepts and I want to know how the communication between Studio Flex and other parties proceeds.
JAIRO: I expect to learn a lot here. Learn about the architecture profession during projects, but also what it is like to work in such a team and what the relationship is between the client and the company. I hope to learn here how it actually works in practice as opposed to what you learn at school.
WHAT KIND OF PROJECTS WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK ON AT STUDIO FLEX?
FAYSAL: I prefer to work on a project from the start, so that I know exactly what the situation is, in the design phase. I enjoy sketching ideas and turning them into concepts.
JAIRO: I always enjoy working on different assignments and performing different tasks during different phases. I think this is possible at Studio Flex because they also have a lot of variation in their projects. I hope to be able to participate in assignments that lead to a good end result.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER YOUR INTERNSHIP?
FAYSAL: After my studies I want to gain experience as a draftsman at an architectural firm. After I have learned enough to start my own business, I want to start a company that specializes in sustainability. A company that makes designs with a focus on sustainability, so that it is good for both people and nature. I also want to find innovative solutions to change the construction world.
JAIRO: I have not yet determined this for myself. First of all I have in mind to complete this training. After that I want to work or do a master in architecture at the Academy of Building Arts.
